TRUTH’S ABOUT THE WORD OF GOD
A. THE WORD OF GOD IS GOD!
God and His Word are ONE.
John 1:1 -2, 10 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word, was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God.
Vs 10 “He was in the world, and the world knew Him not.”vs14 “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
Revelation 19:13 “And He was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and His name is called The Word of God.”
B. The word of God is Creative Power!
God speaks everything into existence
Genesis 1: 3-31
John 1:3 “all things were made by Him; and without Him was not anything made that was made.”
Revelation 4:11 “Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive Glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”
Ephesians 3:9 “and to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ”
All things were made by the Ruach breath of God.
C. The Word of God Is Alive and has Power
God’s Word actively looks for expression – to bring about its desired outcome.
Hebrews 4:11 “For the Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
John 6: 63 “It is the Spirit that gives life; the flesh is useless. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.”
D. The Word of God Stands Forever!
Matthew 24:35, Mark 13:31 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but My word shall not pass away.”
Matthew 5:18 “For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
1 Peter 1:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the Word of God, which liveth and abideth forever.
1 Peter 1: 25 “But the word of the Lord endures forever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.”
E. The Word of God Is Inspired.
Its authority will never wain.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.”
F. The Word of God is infallible.
It is Without Error
Psalm 12:6 “The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.”
Psalm 19:7 “The Law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.”
Psalm 18: 30 “As for God, His way is perfect: the Word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in Him.”
G. The Word of God Imparts Faith
Faith comes by continually hearing the word of God
Romans 10:17 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
H. The Word of God Brings Illumination.
Psalm 119:105 “The word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:130 “The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.”
Proverbs 6:23 “for the commandment is a lamp; and the law is a light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life.”
I. THE CENTRALITY OF THE WORD OF GOD
- God’s Word is the most powerful force in the created order. Genesis 1:
“And God said” everything God wants to see He speaks it into being.
- God has exalted His Word above His name. Psalm 138: 2 “I will worship toward Thy holy temple, and praise Thy name for Thy lovingkindness and for Thy truth, for Thou hast magnified Thy word above all Thy name.”
- His authority is subjected to His every Word
- Heaven and earth will pass away but the word will not pass away. Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” Mark 13:31
- These scriptures reveal how important the word is.
- The Word of God lasts forever!
- Whatever is not built upon the word is sinking sand.
- We are building on things that will eventually pass away… What are you building on?
- New Heaven and new earth… Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:2
- Invest in the Word for your future! Stand on it! Believe it! It is a firm foundation!
- Be Rooted and grounded in the Word.
- Rooted – means to be “Established deeply and firmly”
- To cause to grow roots
- e. Roots of a tree is connected to a water source and buried deep under the ground.
- A skyscraper has a deep foundation because of its height.
- Grounded – means “Well balanced and sensible”…. Syn. Established, built….
J. HOW THE WORD OF THE LORD COMES
- The Word of God comes to you as a promise.
- Abraham got a Word of Promise about his seed and descendants Genesis 12:1-3
- God’s bow, a promise to every living creature upon the earth. Genesis 9:13-17
- God’s promise to Joshua “…as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee, I will not fail thee nor forsake thee…” Joshua 1:5
- The Word of God comes as prophecy.
- “…Behold a virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” Isaiah 7:14
- Agabus prophesied Paul’s arrest. Acts 21: 10-11 “And as we tarried there many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus. And when he was come unto us, he took Paul’s girdle, and bound his own hands and feet, and said, Thus saith the Holy Ghost, “so shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man that owneth this girdle, and shall deliver him unto the Gentiles.”
- The Word of God comes as judgment.
- David’s son with Bathsheba dies. 2 Samuel 12: 11-14
- King Ahab death prophesied, he murdered Naboth 1 Kings 21:19, 1 Kings 22:38
- The Word of God can come as rebuke.
- King Belshazzar rebuked and killed for profaning that which was holy. Daniel 5:1-30
- Acts 13: 6-12 Paul rebuked the sorcerer Elymas in Paphos
- The Word of God can come as instruction.
- Acts 16:6 “…and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia.”
- Acts 8:29 “The Spirit said to Philip, “Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”
- Acts 13:2 “As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, “Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.”
- Job 22:21-30 “Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby good shall come unto thee………..”
- The word of God can come as encouragement.
- Isaiah 40 1-31 God speaks comfort and encouragement to His people.
- Romans 12: 1-3 “I beseech thee therefore brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be nor confirmed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is the good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.”
- The Word of God comes from you, the Speaker/Preacher.
- Romans 10:14 “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”
